An Anaesthetist is a fully qualified medical specialist that provides:

• Preoperative assessment and optimisation - to ensure the safest anaesthetic for the patient.

• Management of whole patient care while they are having their surgery.

• Managing any concurrent illnesses or infections or unexpected situation.

• Ensuring patients are safe and comfortable during their procedure.

• Assistance to enable a patient to recover as comfortably as possible.

• Providing pain relief advice post-operatively to aid recovery and return of function.
